If you are currently taking any medical drugs - DO NOT STOP TAKING THEM (unless you have been advised to do so by your gp).

There are some conditions where a medical drug will be needed for life but generally these are few and far.

None of us like to take a medical drug but for some it keeps them alive. I have experienced with my own family that medical intervention was the only option and were at that time literally lifesaving. However for me, that was where my nutritional journey began as I personally had to seek out other ways to improve health.

Sadly many people overuse drugs as they pop a pill for many ills which could in many cases be prevented by lifestyle changes such as better diet, hydration, rest, cease smoking, reduce alcohol, stress reduction, more play etc.

Medical drugs work very quickly in most cases, but they only seek to treat the disease which for many means a life time on the drugs such as hypertensive drugs, statins, metformin (high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high blood sugars can be diet and lifestyle related.). Medical drugs do not treat the cause or the reasons for the symptoms and to make matters worse many drugs interfere with nutrient pathways so can cause even more vitamin and mineral imbalances which can lead to further disease. Medical drugs also come with a list of many side effects and other drugs may have to be prescribed to deal with this.

A nutritional programme can still work along side your medical drugs and can for some allow them to stop using the medication as they see improvements in their health such as a lowering of blood pressure, cholesterol, pre diabetic levels, chronic headaches etc. It is important that at this stage you always discuss with your gp before taking yourself off any medication. Always take advice from a qualified nutritionist when taking any supplements as they can also interact with your medication.
